The University of Cape Coast (UCC) proudly celebrated its 57th Congregation on April 24, 2025, in a grand ceremony held at the New Examination Centre.
The event brought together distinguished guests, faculty members, alumni, and families to honour the academic accomplishments of the latest graduating cohort.
One of the highlights of the occasion was the recognition of Master Clement Abban, an alumnus of Komenda College (KOSA 20), who was named valedictorian of the 13th session of the 5-Semester Sandwich Programme at the Institute of Education.
With a remarkable Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.9, Abban took centre stage, delivering a compelling valedictory speech that emphasised perseverance, unity, and the pursuit of excellence.

Hailing from Kojokrom, Takoradi in the Western Region, Abban’s academic journey began at Prophet Nkansah Basic School before he moved on to St. John’s School in Sekondi.
As a student, he displayed exceptional intellectual abilities, earning a spot on the prestigious Science and Mathematics Quiz team.
His leadership skills blossomed at Komenda College, where he served as the SRC Secretary, and later held positions as the Deputy Secretary and Administrator of the Western and Central TTAG (Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana).
Currently a professional teacher at Taido Basic School in Anomabo, Mfantseman Municipality, Abban’s trajectory has been one of resilience, determination, and service to others.
As the only child of his mother, he grew up without knowing his father, yet he refused to let personal circumstances hinder his dreams.
Instead, he pushed forward with unwavering faith, proving that “God is the orchestrator of life and destiny.”
Innovative Support
Beyond his challenges, Abban faced academic hurdles during the 5-Semester Sandwich Programme, particularly concerning online learning.
Many students struggled with network difficulties, making access to recorded lectures a daunting task.
Demonstrating initiative, Abban created digital learning platforms on WhatsApp and Telegram, offering academic assistance and resource-sharing for his colleagues, particularly in Mathematics and Physics.
He took an active role in bridging learning gaps, ensuring that even students from distant centres had access to crucial academic materials.
His dedication extended to preparing and sharing video tutorials, reinforcing his commitment to education and collaborative success.
His effort exemplifies the true spirit of leadership—lifting others while striving for personal excellence.
Heartfelt Message
Abban’s valedictory speech carried a powerful message of hope and determination. He urged his fellow graduands to embrace challenges as stepping stones to success, stating:
“Don’t let your predicament be an excuse for not reaching your goal. Keep moving no matter what.”
His words resonated deeply with attendees, inspiring many to view obstacles as opportunities for growth.
In expressing gratitude, he acknowledged God as his source of strength and extended special thanks to his best friend and brother, Mr. Frank Kingsley Acquah, whose unwavering support played a pivotal role in his academic journey.
He also reflected on the financial struggles he encountered but affirmed that, through divine intervention and hard work, he had triumphed.
Call to Action
As the 2025 graduates embark on new journeys, Abban encouraged them to uphold the values instilled by UCC—integrity, service, and lifelong learning.
He challenged them to be agents of change, demonstrating courage and determination in the face of adversity.
Quoting Ecclesiastes 7:8, he reminded his peers that “the end of a matter is better than the beginning, and patience in spirit is better than pride.”
His words reinforced the significance of perseverance and adaptability as they transition into new chapters in their lives.
