The teachers, who were posted during the 2024/2025 academic year, have disclosed that they have not been paid for 12 months and 8 months, respectively, since assuming their positions in schools across the country.

At a press briefing in Accra on September 8, 2025, the group’s lead convener, Simon Kofi Nartey, described their situation as “devastating,” stressing that members are battling severe financial hardship due to prolonged salary delays.

“Many of us can no longer pay our rent, which is overdue. We are unable to settle our utility bills, and even basic needs such as food and medical bills have become difficult to afford,” Mr. Nartey said.

“This has resulted in some of our colleagues losing their lives in recent times.”

The group is demanding:

  • Immediate issuance of staff ID numbers
  • Prompt validation of all affected teachers
  • Full payment of salaries and arrears owed

They warned that if the issues are not addressed by the end of September 2025, they will embark on a massive demonstration on the principal streets of Accra to register their displeasure and the “hardship” they are enduring.

“We are hereby giving notice that if by the end of September 2025 we are not issued our staff ID numbers, validated, and paid our salaries and arrears, we will stage a massive demonstration,” they declared.

The teachers have appealed directly to President John Dramani Mahama, urging him to intervene and instruct the Ministry of Finance to release the necessary funds without further delay.

“We know that His Excellency John Dramani Mahama is a listening president. We humbly call for his urgent intervention to ensure that the Ministry of Finance releases the necessary funds to pay our arrears and salaries without further delay,” Mr. Nartey emphasized.
