The Minister of Education, Honourable Haruna Iddrisu, will serve as the Special Guest of Honour.

Honouring Excellence in Education

The Ghana Teacher Prize is Ghana’s most prestigious award scheme for educators, recognizing outstanding teachers and non-teaching staff who have demonstrated exceptional commitment, innovation, and impact in their professional roles.

The 2025 edition continues the tradition of celebrating excellence in education and spotlighting individuals who elevate the standards of teaching and learning across the country.

According to the NTC, nominations and applications for the 2025 Ghana Teacher Prize were officially opened earlier this year, with categories including:

  • Best Teacher (Teaching Category)
  • Teacher in Leadership and Administration
  • Non-Teaching Staff
  • Best College Lecturer

Applicants were required to submit their entries by June 10, 2025, through the official portal at ntc.gov.gh/gtp-2025

Highlights from the 2024 Edition

The announcement of this year’s launch comes on the heels of a successful 2024 edition. Last year’s Ghana Teacher Prize launch was held on August 14, 2024, also at the GNAT Hall in Accra.

That event featured the unveiling of finalists in both teaching and non-teaching categories, under the theme “Celebrating Excellence: Valorising Our Teachers.”

The Registrar of the NTC hosted the ceremony, while then-Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Adutwum, served as Guest of Honour.

The main award ceremony for the 2024 edition took place from October 3 to October 5 in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital.

The region was selected as host following a stakeholder engagement led by the NTC Registrar and a courtesy visit to the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council.

During the visit, Honourable Simon Osei-Mensah, then Ashanti Regional Minister, expressed gratitude for the honour and pledged full support for the event.

He assured the NTC delegation of the Coordinating Council’s commitment to working closely with the Regional Education Directorate and other agencies to ensure a memorable Ghana Teacher Prize celebration.

What to Expect in 2025

The 2025 launch event is expected to set the tone for another impactful celebration of Ghanaian educators.

With the Minister of Education’s presence and renewed focus on teacher empowerment, stakeholders anticipate a strong message of reform, recognition, and investment in the teaching profession.

The NTC has urged all teacher education institutions, unions, and stakeholders to participate actively and help disseminate information about the prize.

Teachers across the country are encouraged to follow updates and prepare for the main award ceremony later in the year.
