Parents and concerned members of the Mepe-Workpoe community in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region are appealing to the government to send more teachers to the Workpoe D/A Basic School.

The school, which has over 200 learners, is currently being managed by only two permanent teachers and two volunteers who teach from kindergarten to junior high school.

The headmaster of the school expressed his concerns about the inadequate number of teachers in an interview with Our correspondent, Romeo Doh on Friday, 6th October, 2023.

He revealed that they have reported the issue several times to the appropriate authorities, but no action has been taken to address the situation.

He also stated that the four teachers are overburdened with work as they have to teach all the classes from KG to JHS.

The Workpoe community, which is a village under Mepe, has a Parent Association that has been trying to find a solution to the teacher shortage.

However, their efforts have been fruitless, and they are now calling on the government to intervene and provide them with more teachers.

The parents and community members are worried about the quality of education that their children are receiving due to the lack of teachers.

They fear that the students may not be able to compete with their peers from other schools, which could affect their future prospects.

In addition to calling on the government to provide more teachers, the community members are also urging teachers to accept postings to the area.

They believe that if more teachers are willing to work in their community, it will help to improve the quality of education and provide better opportunities for their children.

The Mepe-Workpoe community remains hopeful that their collective plea will catch the attention of education authorities and prompt swift action.
