The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially announced that all newly admitted Senior High School (SHS) students are expected to report to their respective schools on October 18, 2025, to begin the first term of the 2025/2026 academic year.

This directive applies to Form One students across both Single Track and Transitional Calendar schools.
The announcement was made through a letter signed by Prince C. Agyemang-Duah, Director of Schools and Instructions Division, on behalf of the Acting Director-General of GES.
“The Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) wishes to inform Heads of all Second Cycle Institutions of the 2025/2026 Academic Calendar. Reporting date for first-year students (Single Track and Transitional Schools) is 18th October, 2025,” — the statement read.

For schools operating under the Transitional Calendar, SHS 1 students will begin their first term on October 18, which includes 9 weeks of in-school learning and 4 weeks of offsite/blended instruction, ending on January 30, 2026.
The second term resumes on March 16, 2026, and runs until June 12, 2026, followed by a third term from July 3 to September 4, 2026.
In Single Track schools, SHS 1 students will be in school from October 18, 2025, to February 27, 2026 for their first term, and return for the second term from May 4 to August 21, 2026, when the academic year concludes.
GES Urges Compliance and Readiness
GES has directed all Regional Directors to ensure that Heads of Institutions strictly adhere to the calendar to promote consistency and effective academic planning nationwide.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to prepare adequately for the reporting date.
“The Service counts on your usual cooperation to ensure effective teaching and learning in our institutions for the 2025/2026 academic year,” — the statement added.

GES has also cautioned school authorities against denying admission to students over non-procurement of prospectus items, reinforcing its commitment to equitable access to education.
