The University for Development Studies (UDS) has issued a strong warning to newly admitted students and their guardians regarding fraudulent messages circulating on social media and other platforms, falsely instructing them to make payments for souvenirs.
According to a statement issued by the Office of the Registrar, the misleading messages — purportedly from the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) — direct fresh students to deposit money into a bank account allegedly for the purchase of souvenirs.
Management of UDS has categorically denied authorizing any such payments, stressing that neither the Admissions Office nor the Office of the Dean of Students has sanctioned, approved, or permitted the collection of money for souvenirs or any related items.
“The University has not mandated any group or individual to collect monies from fresh students under the guise of souvenirs or any related items,” the statement emphasized.
UDS has advised all fresh students and their guardians to ignore these fraudulent messages and refrain from making any payments until an official directive is communicated through recognized University channels.
“The University will not be responsible for any losses arising from transactions with unauthorized persons or entities,” the statement further cautioned.
Students seeking clarification or verified information are urged to contact either the Admissions Office or the Office of the Dean of Students directly through official communication lines.
The statement, signed by Abdul Hayi Moomen, Director of Public Affairs, on behalf of the Registrar, serves as a timely reminder for the students to remain vigilant as they prepare to begin the new academic year.
