The University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Tarkwa, has officially opened its undergraduate admissions for the 2025/2026 academic year.

Renowned for its excellence in mining, engineering, and applied sciences, UMaT invites prospective students from Ghana and beyond to apply for its diverse programmes across multiple faculties.

Faculty of Mining and Minerals Technology

Admission Process

UMaT admits students based on the following qualifications:

  • WASSCE/SSSCE holders
  • GCE ‘A’ Level holders
  • Mature applicants
  • International applicants

Programmes typically span 8 semesters (4 years). There is no minimum age limit, and the university welcomes applicants of all nationalities and backgrounds.

Admission Requirements

The general entry requirements are as follows:

WASSCE/SSSCE Applicants

  • Must have six (6) passes including English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science.
  • Must obtain at least three (3) core subjects and three (3) elective subjects relevant to the chosen programme.
  • Minimum aggregate score: 36 for WASSCE and 24 for SSSCE.

GCE ‘A’ Level Applicants

  • Must have passes in three (3) subjects (at least one should be Grade D or better).
  • Must also have five (5) GCE ‘O’ Level credits including English, Mathematics, and Science.

Mature Applicants

  • Must be 25 years or older by the time of application.
  • Must pass an entrance examination in English, Mathematics, and Science.

International Applicants

  • Must possess qualifications equivalent to the Ghanaian WASSCE or GCE.
  • Must provide proof of English proficiency if English is not their first language.

Applicants must purchase an e-voucher to begin the online application process via UMaT’s admission portal.

Application Deadline

  • Application Start Date: May 27, 2025
  • Deadline for Submission: December 19, 2025

Applicants awaiting WASSCE results must update their applications before the deadline. Late submissions will not be accepted.

Additional Notes

  • UMaT does not require a birth certificate for admission.
  • Admission status can be checked via the UMaT portal using the e-voucher PIN and reference number.
  • Postgraduate admissions are also open, with separate requirements and fees.
