The Coalition of Unemployed Trained Teachers (CUTT), consisting of 2023 graduates from the 46 accredited public Colleges of Education in Ghana, has formally petitioned the Ministry of Education to expedite the process of granting financial clearance and opening the Ghana Education Service (GES) recruitment portal for their employment.
In a letter dated May 15, 2025, addressed to the Honourable Minister of Education, the coalition extended congratulations on his appointment and expressed optimism that his tenure would mark a turning point in addressing longstanding concerns affecting qualified but unemployed trained teachers.
The petition outlines the frustration and uncertainty faced by thousands of certified teachers despite having successfully completed all required processes, including four years of rigorous academic training, the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE), a mandatory one-year national service in 2024—concluded in February 2025—and the acquisition of provisional teaching licenses, which are set to expire by 2026.
The coalition has emphasised the significant emotional, social, and financial strain that the delay in postings has imposed on its members and their families.
Trained teachers who have met all professional requirements remain in a state of uncertainty, unable to secure employment in a field for which they are fully qualified.
Many have had to resort to temporary, non-teaching jobs to sustain themselves, while others are experiencing heightened stress and financial hardship due to prolonged unemployment.
Representatives of CUTT have expressed their concerns over the lack of transparency and communication regarding the recruitment process.
They are seeking clear responses to specific queries, including the timeline for financial clearance, the commencement of postings, and any further steps necessary for recruitment.
A member of the coalition remarked that, despite fulfilling all conditions expected of them, trained teachers are still waiting without clarity on when they will be deployed into the education sector.
The petition calls for immediate public communication from the Ministry of Education to provide assurance to affected individuals and manage expectations effectively.
The signatories to the letter express trust in the Minister’s leadership and the belief that his administration will prioritize the interests of qualified teachers, ensuring their deployment to institutions where their expertise is needed.
