The Ministry of Education has announced plans to roll out a teachers’ housing initiative, with full support from President John Dramani Mahama.
The programme is designed to address the pressing housing and infrastructural challenges that continue to affect teaching and learning across the country.
The Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, disclosed this during a monitoring visit to some West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) centres in Bolgatanga, Upper East Region.
While interacting with teachers and management of ZAMSTEC School, he stressed that the initiative demonstrates government’s commitment to improving the welfare of teachers.
Hon. Iddrisu further revealed that the Ministry has received policy approval to begin teacher promotions, adding that the Public Services Commission (PSC) has been tasked to oversee the process to ensure fairness and transparency.
According to him, this marks an important step in motivating teachers to give their best in service delivery.
On infrastructural development, the Minister reiterated government’s plan to invest GH₵1 billion from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) into expanding educational facilities.

This, he said, will help phase out the double-track system, which has long posed challenges to effective teaching and learning.
The Education Ministry maintains that the combined interventions in housing, promotions, and infrastructure reflect government’s broader strategy of strengthening the education sector and improving the conditions of service for teachers nationwide.
