GES Announces Opening of WAEC School Selection Portal for BECE Candidates

Share:

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially announced the opening of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) School Selection Portal, enabling candidates of the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to select their preferred Senior High Schools (SHS), Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions online.

The portal, accessible via https://www.waecinternetsolution.org/ , went live on Thursday, July 24, 2025, and will remain open until Friday, August 8, 2025.

In a circular, the Director of Schools and Instructions Division, Mr. Prince C. Agyemang-Duah, directed all Regional Directors of Education to disseminate the information to Metro, Municipal, and District Directors, and ensure that Heads of Junior High Schools (JHS) are fully informed and prepared to facilitate the exercise.

The portal is designed to streamline the school selection process for both school-based and private BECE candidates, allowing them to make informed choices from the available SHS and TVET institutions across the country.

Private candidates are required to log in using their Index Numbers and Dates of Birth as their username and password, respectively.

GES emphasised the importance of accurate and timely data entry, urging all Metro/Municipal/District Directors to ensure that Examination Coordinators actively supervise and monitor the process in their respective jurisdictions.

This oversight is critical to minimising errors and ensuring that candidates’ preferences are correctly captured for placement under the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).

The school selection exercise is a pivotal step in our education transition process, determining the placement of thousands of BECE candidates into second-cycle institutions.

As such, GES has called on all stakeholders—including parents, guardians, and school administrators—to take a keen interest in the process and support candidates in making realistic and well-informed choices.

In recent years, the CSSPS has undergone several reforms aimed at improving transparency, reducing placement errors, and enhancing user experience.

The 2025 portal features a simplified interface and updated guidelines to help candidates navigate the selection process with ease.

Candidates are expected to choose schools across Category A, B, C, and D, with options for both boarding and day placements, depending on their preferences and academic performance.

GES also reminded schools to verify candidate information before final submission and encouraged Examination Coordinators to provide technical support where needed.

The Service reiterated its commitment to ensuring a smooth and equitable placement process for all eligible candidates.

For further details and access to the portal, candidates and school heads can visit the WAEC Internet Solution Portal.

Regional Directors are expected to report on the progress of the exercise and ensure full compliance with the stipulated timeline.
