The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a firm directive to all Regional Directors, mandating them to ensure that school heads refund any monies collected from students, parents, or guardians for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) practicals.

In an official communication dated 28th July 2025, the Service clarified that the Government of Ghana has released full funding to cover all costs associated with the 2025 WASSCE practicals, including materials and resources.

Despite this provision, Management noted it has observed with concern that some Heads of schools have solicited funds from candidates and their families for these same examinations.

The directive, signed by Prof. Smile Dzisi (Mrs), Acting Deputy Director-General (Management Services), states that:

  • All Heads involved must immediately refund monies collected in respect of the practicals.
  • Refunds must be properly documented, with official receipts issued for each repayment.
  • Each Head must notify their Regional Director once the refund process has been completed.

According to the letter, failure of heads to comply will be deemed a serious breach of official instructions, with potential administrative sanctions to follow.

The notice emphasized that this move is part of efforts to alleviate financial burden on students and their families and to ensure equitable access to examination participation.

Regional Directors have been instructed to disseminate this directive swiftly through their respective Municipal, Metro, and District Directors of Education to all Heads of schools.
