The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced the release of funds to all Senior High Schools (SHS) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTS) across the country to fully cover the cost of 2025 WASSCE practical examinations.
This strategic move is aimed at ensuring a smooth, well-resourced, and equitable examination process for final-year students.
In a press release dated 26th July 2025 and signed by Mr. Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations at GES, the Service emphasized that the funding will support the provision of essential materials and logistics required for practical subjects such as Integrated Science, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, ICT, Visual Arts, and various technical disciplines.
“This payment ensures that all practical examinations scheduled for the 2025 WASSCE are fully supported, including the provision of the required materials and other essential resources,” the statement read.
According to the statement, the funds is expected to relieve parents and guardians of any financial burden associated with practical exam fees, which in previous years had led to concerns over illegal levies and inconsistent resource availability.
GES reiterated its commitment to transparency and accountability, urging regional, district, and school authorities to apply the funds strictly for their intended purpose.
To ensure compliance, GES noted it will actively monitor the utilisation process and maintain high standards in the administration of the exams.
Examination Coordinators and school heads have been tasked with overseeing the proper deployment of resources and ensuring that students are adequately prepared and supported.
This development aligns with recent guidelines issued jointly by GES and WAEC, which outline strict protocols for the conduct of practical exams, including:
- Early arrival and supervision of candidates
- Provision of safety equipment and first aid kits
- Prohibition of unapproved fees or levies
- Full invigilation and adherence to WAEC standards
The 2025 WASSCE practicals began in late June and will continue through August, with written papers scheduled to commence on August 5, 2025, and conclude by September 19, 2025.
GES expressed appreciation to all stakeholders—teachers, parents, school administrators, and district officials—for their continued cooperation in promoting quality education.
The Service reaffirmed its dedication to creating an enabling environment for academic excellence and student success.
