The National Teaching Council (NTC) has intensified efforts to streamline the licensing process for newly trained teachers.

One of the key requirements for participating in the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) is successful indexing—a process that verifies and registers newly trained teachers into the NTC database.
For fresh graduates from the various Colleges of Education and universities who offered education programmes, understanding how to check indexing status, complete indexing, pay fees, and register correctly is essential.

ToggleWhat Is NTC Indexing?
NTC indexing is a mandatory registration process that captures the personal and academic details of newly trained teachers.
It enables the NTC to generate a unique indexing number for each candidate, which is later used to register for the GTLE.
Without indexing, a newly trained teacher cannot sit for the licensure examination or be recognised as a qualified teacher by the Ghana Education Service (GES).
How to Check Your Indexing Status
To verify whether your institution has uploaded your details to the NTC indexing portal:
- Visit the official NTC Indexing Platform HERE.
- Click on “Check Confirmation Status.”
- Enter your name and other required details to search for your record.
- If your details are found, you’ll be assigned an indexing number via SMS or through the portal.
If your information is missing (details not found), contact your training institution to confirm whether your data has been submitted to NTC.
How to Index as a Fresher
Once your details are confirmed, follow these steps to complete the indexing process:
Pay the Indexing Fee when the portal is opened:
- Amount: GHC 50.00
- Payment Options:
- Visit any Prudential Bank branch nationwide
- Dial *772*51# on your mobile phone to pay via mobile money
Receive Your Indexing Number:
After payment, you’ll receive an SMS containing your indexing number.
If you don’t receive the message, use the transaction ID from your payment receipt to retrieve your indexing number on the portal.
Ensure all details are accurate, as errors may affect your eligibility for future registration before you pay for the indexing.
