STOP! YOU CAN’T… Lesson 5

In Our lesson 4, we came to a conclusion that we are not sinners trying to be righteous but we are sinless and righteous people through the Grace of God.

Yesterday, a man sent me a mail asking me what showed that he was righteous? I want to tackle this question today so as to add more to lessons’ discussion.

What you should understand is, this righteousness that I am talking about is not from our own works but it is a GIFT OF GOD to man. It is not by what we have done. IT DOESN’T COME AS A RESULT OF OUR OWN WORKS (building) but it appeared to man through Jesus Christ. It is not by our effort. It doesn’t come through our obedience, prayerfulness or fasting but it is through Jesus Christ.

It is very funny to see people go out for evangelism and tell others to turn from their sins, but yet, have the notion that they themselves are not righteous. If you are not righteous, why then do you go for evangelism at all? But it is not like that. We are made righteous through JESUS CHRIST.

Jesus died to saved us from all unrighteousness, so any man or woman who believes in Him is made righteous instantly. Glory be to God.

But now a RIGHTEOUSNESS from God, apart from law has been made know, to which the law and the prophets testified.(Romans 3:21)

Did you see that? It is not obeying the law (living right) that will make you righteous but it is you having Jesus. This is because he came to fulfill those laws and put an end to them so that you and I will be righteous when we BELIEVE IN HIM ( Jesus).

Paul said:

Christ is the end of the law so that there may be RIGHTEOUSNESS for EVERYONE who BELIEVES.(Romans 10:4 NIV)

Did you see that one there? The scripture didn’t say, “…SO THAT THERE MAY BE RIGHTEOUSNESS FOR EVERYONE THAT WORKS HARD.” No!

It is no more your works! it is no more your might! Remember what David said, “…UNLESS THE LORD… YOU LABOUR IN VAIN.” The building of righteousness is already established. You don’t have to worry yourself to build your own. All you need is to believe in Jesus .

Let look at this:
If, in fact, Abraham was justified by WORKS, He had something to boast about BUT NOT BEFORE GOD. What does the scripture say? Abraham BELIEVED GOD, and it was credited to him as RIGHTEOUSNESS. (Romans 4:2-3 NIV)

Nothing was credited to Abraham as righteousness than him believing in God. So you see? It is not works that will make one righteous but believing in the FINISHED WORKS OF CHRIST. If it was by works, no man on this earth will ever qualify to stand before God . But it is our faith in Jesus Christ’s finished works on the cross that makes us righteous. It is a free gift from God. No man on earth can work for His own righteousness. Righteousness was given to man through Jesus Christ, so stop your struggling to be righteous and believe from today that, you are MADE righteous by the Grace of God.

Note: Unless the Lord builds that room of righteousness for man, man will continue to suffer in vain. But Thank God, Jesus has done it all. Glory be to God!
