In our previous lesson, we got to know we are not sinners trying to be righteous but rather we are sinless and righteous people through the grace of God resisting the temptation to tresspass. We also came to conclusion that RIGHTEOUSNESS IS A FREE GIFT from GOD TO MAN through JESUS CHRIST.
Today, I want us to tackle another structure (house) that some believers are trying to build for themselves .They are using all their strength and energy for that but they still can’t accomplish it. This is because “…UNLESS THE LORD …THEY LABOR IN VAIN.” And that BUILDING is that? It is the building of STRUGGLE TO OBEY THE LAW.
One thing that David said indirectly in the verse quoted above was that, “No man can have a right standing with God by adhering to the LAW” Let’s look at the ‘b’ part of the verse under study:
…unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain. (Psalm 127:1b)
What is the meaning of the WATCHMEN in regards to our studies? They are people who are seeing to it that, day-in and day-out they will obey the laws and also make sure people also obey. They make sure no one will go against the standards set, not even they themselves. They walk in doctrines and laws and are always on the watch not to flout it.
But the pathetic aspect of it all is, in all their trying, they themselves go contrary to it the more.
There are believers today who are struggling hard to make sure they obey all the rules and regulations laid down through Moses to the Israelites (the 10 Commandments and 613 article of the law). But what did David said?
“Unless the Lord … your obedience to the law will take you to hell”. Stop building your own house, for it is no more your works (obedience to the law) that saves you.
If any preacher, tells you that its
your obedience to the LAW that will save and take you to heaven (have eternal life), tell that person to go and study his scriptures very well. Why should you have to worry yourself obeying all the laws and commandments? If the laws were able to save, there wouldn’t have been the need for Jesus Christ.
STOP! IT CAN’T SAVE YOU. The only law that can save you is TO BELIEVE IN JESUS CHRIST.
Look at what John said:
For God so love the world that he gave his only son, that whosoever BELIEVES IN HIM (Jesus) shall not perish but have ETERNAL LIFE (John 3:16 NIV)
Did you see that? He didn’t say, “Anyone who believes in the law of the prophets will be saved” but rather, “Anyone who believes in the son Jesus shall be saved” Hallelujah! The only OBEDIENCE HERE IS TO BELIEVE IN JESUS. Nothing more, nothing less.
But today, you will see believers strictly following some doctrines and laws which they claim will save them. Hey it is a lie! There is no salvation outside Jesus. The law can’t save you, only Jesus Christ can save.
Stop trying to justify yourself by the law for it is useless and powerless to save you.
What then is the law ? Why was it unable to save? Is the law still in operation? These and many more questions bothering your mind will be answered through this devotion. Just follow it each day and you shall be power packed with the gospel of grace in Jesus name. Amen!
