The Ghana Scholarship Secretariat has announced the opening of its online portal for local tertiary scholarship applications for the 2025/2026 academic year.

This initiative offers financial relief to eligible Ghanaian students pursuing higher education in accredited local institutions.

The application window will be active from Wednesday, July 30, 2025, to Friday, August 15, 2025.

Application Process

Applicants are required to undergo a three-phase application procedure designed to ensure transparency and merit-based selection.

Phase 1: Online Registration and Document Upload

All interested candidates must begin by visiting the official scholarship application portal at https://apply.scholarships.gov.gh/

Applicants must create an account to access the application form, which must be completed in full.

Required documents include:

  • Admission Letter (mandatory for all applicants)
  • Academic Transcript (for continuing students)
  • Academic Certificates (where applicable)

Phase 2: Aptitude Test

After completing the online registration, candidates will be scheduled to take an aptitude test within the application period.

This assessment will be conducted online and is a mandatory part of the selection process.

Phase 3: In-Person Interview

Applicants who pass the aptitude test will be invited to participate in an interview at a designated Municipal, Metropolitan, or District Assembly (MMDA) office.

Final selection decisions will be made based on performance and compliance with the eligibility criteria.

Eligibility

To be considered for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Tertiary Admission: Must have gained admission into a recognised local tertiary institution and be formally registered for a program of study.
  • Academic Standing: Students from public universities and colleges must have reached at least Level 200, unless exempted under the “No Fee Stress” initiative. Private university students are eligible from Level 100.
  • Nationality and Residency: Applicants must be Ghanaian citizens residing in Ghana.

Applicants are reminded that continuing students must upload their academic transcripts alongside other supporting documents.

Fraud Alert

The Secretariat has emphasised that the scholarship process is entirely free of charge. It has not authorised any third party, group, or individual to collect fees or facilitate applications on its behalf.

Applicants are urged to report any suspicious activity or unauthorised requests for payment.

Reports can be made via WhatsApp at 0559285646, where cases will be referred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service for prompt action.

Interested students are encouraged to apply early and ensure that all documentation is accurately submitted to avoid delays.
