The Colleges of Education Sports Association (COESA) biennial sports festival makes a return after two years break due to constraints imposed by the government on team sports, following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 11th biennial Colleges of Education Sports Association (COESA) sports festival will be hosted at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on November 19-27.
Themed; “Unearthing sports talents in the midst of pandemic: the role of Colleges of Education”, the various zones would battle for honors in volleyball, football, handball, netball, athletics, table tennis, and cross country.
About 900 male and female athletes were drawn from the five (5) zones of Colleges of Education to participate in the event.
The zones consist of the Ashanti-Brong Ahafo zone, Central-Western zone, Volta zone, and Northern zone
Speaking to a Time Sports Reporter, The President of COESA, Alhaji Dr. Suleman Iddrisu posited the Games to sports development in Ghana cannot be overemphasised
“Our role is to educate educators. Our core mandate is to train teachers at the basic level. If our students can go through this process, they would have a positive effect on the children at the basic level’ Dr. Suleman stated
The Technical Chair of COESA, Bismark Tsorhe said one of the main objectives of the event was to get national call ups for some prospective sportsmen/women.
