The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has sounded the alarm over a surge in mobile data bundle scams that have cost Ghanaians more than GH¢73,000 between January and July 2025.
In a public alert issued on Friday, August 1, the CSA revealed that 63 cases have been reported so far, with victims losing money and sensitive personal information to increasingly sophisticated online fraudsters.

According to the CSA, scammers exploit public demand for discounted data by impersonating network operators or advertising fake promos on platforms like WhatsApp, SMS, and social media.
Victims are often lured into paying upfront for non-existent data bundles or clicking on malicious links that compromise their devices.
Tactics Used by Cybercriminals
- Posing as customer service agents or vendors
- Sending unsolicited messages with suspicious links
- Harvesting mobile money PINs, passwords, and verification codes
- Installing malware to hijack WhatsApp and other accounts
- Accessing financial and social media platforms
CSA’s Advisory to the Public
The Authority is urging users to stay alert and take proactive steps to protect themselves:
- Be wary of unsolicited messages advertising cheap data deals
- Avoid sharing verification codes or clicking unknown links
- Enable two-factor authentication on all digital accounts
